Art/Literature 7th Grade Project

St. Catherine of Siena School

Objective:

You will explore the Victorian era in England in conjunction with your study of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  In this unit, you will learn how everyday people lived in 19th Century England,  and will explore the clothing, housing, food, entertainment, and popular culture of the era. A special emphasis will be placed  on the contrast between the conditions enjoyed by the wealthy and middle classes, and those endured by the poor. 

 

You will write and illustrate an original storybook set in the Victorian era.

The Project:

1)     You will use computer lab time in November and early December (dates to be announced) to research the Victorian era in England using the links (including the worksheet) below:

1)     You will complete a Story and Illustration Summary Worksheet.htm story and illustration summary worksheet.

 

2)     In English you will create illustrations for each of your story pages. Additional time during other English classes will be provided for this as well. 

 

3)     You will write your story, using plot, setting (Victorian England ), character, dialogue and theme (Christmas). Due dates for drafts, peer review and final presentation to your buddies will be announced in class and posted on Edline

 

4)     Due date for completion of your illustrations will be announced in class and posted on Edline. 

 

5)     Due date for assembly and submission of your finished book will be announced in class and posted on Edline.
